Matching 5 white balls in any order plus the red Powerball wins the jackpot. This top prize is paid out in the form of an annuity over 30 yearly equal payments or a single cash sum. Choosing the annuity payments has the advantage of having the remaining sum of your jackpot being invested by Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), which operates Powerball, thus making more money for you. This results in a 5% extra return each year.
Three different ticket holders won the largest Powerball jackpot on January 13, 2016. Players in Florida, Tennessee and California split the $1.586 billion prize. This is also the all-time jackpot record for a weekly held lottery.
Power Play
Power Play is an option allowing players to increase the original prize amounts of all prizes excluding the jackpot. The Power Play add-on feature costs an additional $1 and must be picked at the same time as your Powerball lotto ticket. The Power Play option allows a larger cash prize when a win occurs. For example, the Match 5+0 prize combined with the Power Play option reaches $2,000,000 paid. All prizes bellow Match 5 will be multiplied by a number drawn at the same time. These multipliers are 2X, 3X, 4X, and 5X. A 10X multiplier has been added once until now.
Powerball slot machines
In 2006, WMS Gaming launched a series of slot machines using the Powerball brand licensing. There are 3 Powerball slots; Bamboozled, the Thunder Hawk slot and the Hoppin’ Wild. These are only available at land casinos in the US… You therefore won’t find them online or in European gambling venues. The 3 slots have linked progressive jackpots; this means that the total amount of the top prize is raised simultaneously through the 3 slots.
